School is over and I am BACK with some killer reviews! So without further stalling, here they are, brace yourself!
It is no secret that I adore Charlee Jacob. She is our horror poet laureate. Her prose is both fighting and beautiful, rendering images of hellish debauchery and serene landscapes of death and waste all in the same sentence. So, when I picked up THE MYTH OF FALLING, I knew what I was in for. Let me tell you, she did not disappoint. The Myth of Falling is a collection of fantastic stories and Jacobs first book in six years. Published by Sinister Grin Press, the collection houses over fifty short stories, poems and essays about sex, life, death and the myths we all fall for in day to day life. Some of my favorite works (which was incredibly hard for me to pick out just because I loved them all) in the collection were Necromania Sexualis, Essay III: Decay, and Jasmine. If you have never read Charlee Jacob, this collection is a great start to her world of sexual perversion and life affirming darkness. Priced to move at $35 for the hardcover and $2.99 for the eBook version, it’s a steal, so there is no excuse! Buy them both by clicking here.
Tribesmen hit me. It was everything I loved about gritty 70’s cannibal action horror films rolled up into a convenient book! Cesare’s writing brought me into the trenches with his quick pacing and interesting visuals, making every paragraph dripping with hard- core horror madness! By the middle of the book, I felt I was running for my life with a colorful cast of classic Italian giallo inspired characters. It was a fast read though, maybe even too fast. But being a novella, I think the format fit Tribesmen perfectly (even though, secretly, I wish it was longer. Maybe a sequel? We shall see.) Published by Deadite Press, Tribesmen is destine to be a cult classic for many years to come. Pick it up at www.deaditepress.com for a song at $9.95 for the paperback and $4.99 for the eBook.
Two bad ass bikers are about to come upon the weekend of their lives in Nate Southard’s THE SLAB CITY EVENT, and let me tell you, it does not go well. Based in every desert, everywhere and with a combination of every biker-fest you have ever been to or seen, Slab is a wild ride through an undead killing, beer drinking, gun shooting horror bonanza! I love fast reads and Nate always writes to entertain. His work is always solid in structure and is a true thrill, but his characters are where he really shines. So, grab your Harley, a case of beer and your favorite weapon because in the end, you will have to band together just to survive THE SLAB CITY EVENT! Published by Sinister Grin Press, you can get the paperback at the great price of $10.00 or the hardcover for $45 at www.sinistergrinpress.com.
In the same way I feel about Charlee Jacob, I feel for Monica J. O’Rourke. She is brutal with her writing and it all rings with an honest, deathly truth. Being the hard-core horror fan that I am, IN THE END, ONLY DARKNESS pushed all of my buttons and is right up there with the best of them. It is a collection of poetry and stories that is bare bones and deep with terror and gore, a true grimoire of highly entertaining horror fiction. Some of my favorites that stood out were The Rest of Larry, Dancing into October Country, What She Sees and An Experiment in Human Nature. While you are picking up Charlee’s book, go and buy this one. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Available now from Deadite Press for $12 paperback or $4 for the eBook. Click here to buy it!
